Another week, another hurricane
« on: September 11, 2017, 08:22:21 PM »
Well now after Harvey and Irma, Jose might come to call next weekend.  Not as big and bad as the others, Jose still impressive on weather map nearing Hatteras next Sunday/Monday.  On the back side looks like cranking NW on Tuesday, Jockeys ridge anyone?

It seems to be taking the path surfers like - curving away between here and Bermuda - as long as it doesn't get too close to the outer banks.

Models all different now, so too early to call.  Depends how close it comes to the coast, if close too much wind, if it stays offshore then fun.

Jose looks to stay offshore of Hatteras, approaches Sun and Mon.  Increasing NE wind during that time then as storm moves away, wind turns NW on Tues.  Wish I could try Jockeys Ridge Tues but have to work.  Took Monday off which is shaping up to be good Cedar Island day or Hatteras. My guess is 15-20 NE on Sun 20-25 N on Monday.

Forecast this morning for coast, NE today 15-20 ramping up gradually to 20-25 tonight tomorrow N 20-30 possibly more at Hatteras. Road flooding could be issue around high tide with big waves from Jose.

Took boogie boards to Shackleford yesterday, full of surfers, nice and clean wave sets up 4-5 ft max until low tide, then nothing. Not enough wind though (could have tried 6.5 on Sound but didn't). No wind this morning but said to come in after 2pm (when tide comes in, which would be good), but again just marginal in the forecast. Wish I could stay until Monday/Tuesday. Maybe one of you guys can catch it.
