Weekend forecast - wait and see
« on: August 11, 2017, 08:22:09 AM »
Looks like some SSW tomorrow at the coast, possible rain but thats more likely early or late in the day.  Most areas showing 15+ and wouldn't be surprised if its 20 late afternoon as long as rain holds off.  Right now NWS predicting 50-60% rain and 0.1 inch.  Sunday lighter wind probably due to cold front being overhead but if it holds off as it tends to at coast chance for SW wind on Sun.

If we don't go to the coast I will be at Falls lake if the wind and rain work out.

I am thinking about the Basin.  Three forecasts all say 15-25 beginning around 11:00 to 1:00 and staying up to about 5:00.  High tide is 11:46, Low at 6:30 (usually later than they say).  I would likely try to sail from 11:00/12:00 to?

Harkers not too different, maybe more wind, high tide at 11:55 but 30 mins. longer drive for me.

Sailing alone at the Basin (likely to be other sailors if wind) is no big deal for me.  Harkers is another story.

Forecast down a little and with the rain potential, I will pass on the Basin.  Too long of a drive for winds likely to be under 20.  iWindsurf Pro forecast this morning is well below their free forecasts all along the coast.

Bailing was a good call.  The Basin didn't hit a 20 mph gust until 1:30 and then made a slow climb the rest of the day, but average wind speeds for the afternoon was 15-18, plus the wind gage at the ferry port (iWindsurf) reads high compared to what is on the water in the Basin.

Better at Salvo where the wind average hit 20 at 1:00 and then stayed there for the next 4 hours., with a 45 minute big lull at 3:00.  Shower??  Also a gust to 37 at 5:30 - Squall I guess.
